Diamond Wedding and Engagement Rings
Diamond engagement rings are still the norm for would-be fiancés, despite all the information about how cruelly most diamonds are mined. And, of course, bigger is always better. Men are advised to spend at least a couple months' wages worth on the rings, if not more. The average price of an engagement ring in 2005 was over $4000. Is it worth it? Shapes range from the traditional round design to cute shapes, like the heart shape. The ideal diamond is clear and colorless, with no imperfections to the shape, and has a high clarity rating. All of these three characteristics are rated according to an extensive scale that all jewelry experts must adhere to. Colored diamonds are becoming more popular, like the diamond that Mariah Carey has been seen wearing since her supposed wedding to actor Nick Cannon. The ring is a square, emerald cut, light pink diamond surrounded by darker pink diamonds all around it. Yet natural diamonds might be on their way out. Scientists are becoming increasingly skilled at producing perfectly-formed diamonds under laboratory conditions. This will make beautiful diamonds much cheaper, and children in Africa will not have to be harmed in the finding of the diamonds. It may be that one day soon, the "worth" of your diamond, based on that elaborate jewelry rating scale, will be nothing more than meaningless ink on paper.
